Chapter 09 · Water

Freediving

One breath, straight down. The quietest place I've ever been.

Freediving is the calmest extreme sport there is. No tank, no bubbles, no sound — just one breath and the most honest conversation you'll ever have with your own nervous system.

The hardest part happens above the surface: learning to slow the heart, quiet the brain, and trust the mammalian dive reflex that's been waiting in your DNA the whole time. The depth is almost a side effect.

Certified, hooked, and permanently changed about what “relaxed” means. The journal has the week-one diary — panic, breakthroughs, and all.
