Camping
The gateway hobby. A tent, a mountain, and the discovery that started everything.
Camping was the first domino. One borrowed tent, one weekend with no plan, and the realization that being slightly uncomfortable outside beats being comfortable inside. Everything on this site traces back to that first night of bad sleep and great coffee.
It taught the fundamentals every later hobby borrowed: how to pack, how to read weather, how to be okay when the plan falls apart. The tent got better, the coffee setup got embarrassingly elaborate, and the mountains kept getting bigger.
These days camping is less of a hobby and more of a default setting — the base layer under hiking, backpacking, and every trailhead alarm set for 5am.
