Chapter 10 · Outdoors / Travel

Solo Backpacking

Everything you need on your back, nobody to split decisions with.

Solo backpacking is the final exam for every outdoor chapter before it: camping's systems, hiking's legs, fishing's patience, and the lifter's tolerance for carrying heavy things uphill on purpose.

Five days alone re-calibrates everything. Decisions get quieter. Food tastes enormous. The pack that started at 38 pounds has been argued down to 26, one cut item at a time — the full pack list lives in the journal.

Going alone isn't about being antisocial. It's about finding out which parts of you show up when nobody else can.
